Gday all, been playing tourist in the Kimberly again. Soon after arriving at the Ord River and settling in I asked Louise if she would like to have a quick fish before the sunset, we tried to get some mullet in the throw net but found it hard going, finally one large Mullet was netted and put on my rod as the bait was far to big for Louises PINK ugly stick and 6 kg Daiwa crossfire 2000 toy reel loaded with 6kg braid and 4/0 hook. I took Louise to a rock up in the rapids with a good back eddy and showed her where to put the bait and how much line to let out, to feel the TAP TAP and then run of a Barra, I tried to set the hooks but missed, they are here I said to Louise, then handed her the rod, I left her there  while I tried to get some more (smaller) mullet, after a couple of throws I got some perfect size mullet and put one one Louises new Pink ugly stick and took it to her, I took my rod back to the lower pool and set it up and noticed Louises line at my eye level, I turned and said have you got a fish to see a monster Barra jumping right in front of me. Fugg me I thought, Pink rod, 6kg line, rapids, monster Barra, 4/0 hook on a clip swivel and a girl on the other end, this has to end up bad!
I scrambled back up the rocks to Louise, took her in one hand and the pink ugly stick in the other and guided them to the lower pool, all while winding the reel when slack line appeared when the fish turned. after reching the lower pool I handed the fight back to Louise and wound my live mullet up, I noticed 2 other anglers watching from the other side of the river cheering Louise on and enjoying the jumping Barra show, Louise soon tired and could not take control of the fish and asked me to take over, so being the nice caring husband that I am I obliged, I felt the spool was already pretty hot so I did not play with the drag and just thumbed the spool as required, after some crashing runs and a few good jumps the fish tired and came to Daddy, I had it at my feet for a few moments while working out how to pick it up without injury to it or me, Louise could not pick it up so we only got this one pick with me before release, The Barra was 105cm long, Then a huge hug and dance on the rocks by us both and the guys on the other bank punching the air, we packed up and went back up to the house all in half an hr
