Furuno FCV 1150 transducer....again!!!

Here we go again.....Looking to install a fcv1150 into my new hull....Does anyone have any experience with thru hull installation of

  • Furuno CA200B-8B
  • Furuno CA38bl-15hr
  • Airmar R99
  • Airmar R209

Airmar R309??
Looking closely at the Furuno option and Reece at Taylors has been gold with help but absolutely dont want to risk porpoising or listing in the hull behaviour.
Boat has a 24 degree deadrise with transducer being fitted in transom well in front of twin 175hp Suzukis.
Has anyone fitted these???And then theres the CHIRP issue....too FKN hard to get your head around whats the very best option
Any techies out there who know what's what???
Cheers WAZ

The Airmar thru-hull trannies

are bloody huge and will make your boat go round in circles 570L x 140W x 102D and 50lbs. they are the outside hull equivalents of the R399 (like mine), R299 and R199 in-hull units. see http://www.furunousa.com/products/productdetail.aspx?product=FCV1150&category=Products+%3a+Depth+%26+Fish+Finders+%3a+Fish+Finders for the trannies recommended for the FVC 1150 by Furuno.
The Furuno CA38bl-15hr is a good option but has a 21degree beam angle. The Furuno CA200B-8B is a good bet. Both of these units can be mounted "wet face" in a special water tight box in the hull. Goat has his simillar units on pods bolted to the transom but you probably wont have the room if you are going twin outboards and trim tabs.

Furuno sounds the goods, just have to get the builder to check the specs properly.
Too many options....and a few horror stories to go with it.
See you in a coupla months...waz

With the Furuno TD's...scuse my ignorance, do they fitup in a wet box or is the transducer face flush with the bottom of the hull and exposed to the waterline??
Or....if mounted thru hull..does the TD face sit below the waterline of the hull causing some turbulance??
Was led to believe the TD's sit in the water...so worried about the 38 affecting the behaviour of the hull since it's a 150mm housebrick
With a 24 degree deadrise the hull could be affected easily thru tab or motor settings.
Can't get my head around how they'll fit them up to not affect the boat but still ensure vertical projection with the TD's.
Fuzzies are still kicking up over here...no worries in camp though...wouldnt even know.
10 weeks till rig arrives Mick..give you a call to test

With the Airmar R99 and 309 etc

they sit outside your hull thus http://www.furunousa.com/products/ProductDetail.aspx?product=R309TIDN&category=Products+%3a+Transducers+%3a+Transducers+w%2fTemp&category=Products+%3a+Transducers+%3a+Transducers+w%2fTemp
The CA types can go inside the hull, they router a window through the hull and sit the tranny through it, the tranny has a step in the bottom. The lot is housed inside a wet box. I have seen an ally cat with the set up. For a mono they mount them inside the hull in a conventional wet box, shoot through style. The reason they do this is because the hull is vee shaped and each tranny is mounted either side of the keel in the box with the bottom face at 90 deg, so it's shooting straight down. This style requires a little more work to set up but shurely these guys at Eden Craft have done it before and have a solution for you?
The easiest way is to fit an R299 or R399 like most of us here but I know that Taylor Marine dont reccommend these trannies for the FCV 1150. Taylor's recommend the same trannies to everyone that buys an 1150. I would go the 2 CA trannies you picked and find out how Eden Craft intend to fit them.
Take care mate
