BUT I know what a boat costs to run-and $250 is not unreasonable at all.
I wouldnt pay it myself but those who need to in (say) Coral Bay usually end up with at least that value of fillets.

Not so much about the charter boat operator boy's but the Muppets from a boat shop that have a half assed tackle shop & are basically trying to get punters to pay they're way on the boat just to try & sell them more crap & while at it so they get a free fishing trip.

It all comes down to what people are willing to pay for the type of fishing that charter boat is doing, supply and demand.
The 2 charter boats up Coral Bay have uped the price from $190 odd last year to $250 present price, which seems strange to me as they had no ban, seems that all the charter boats are doing it.
DD is right about the cost involved in running a charter boat, up Coral Bay they wont go out with less than 6 people for a charter, so that tells me they break even at $1200 - $1500 per trip.
I just dont see the point in paying that much for getting my arms elongated for sambos, but to each their own

from experience I can tell you that the cost of running a boat in Coral Bay is a hell of a lot more than Perth.
Fuel alone, but what happens when you have a breakdown and need a mechanic? Its not a 30 minute drive from Kewdale, its 3 hours labour plus milage just to get someone there from Carnarvon, $1000 each way + from Gero. Then travel back again, order parts and return again.
$400 + for a skipper a day, $200+ for a decent decky. On top of that I believe up there FESA has made all businesses responsible for their staffs evacuation during cyclones. So the cafes etc during a cyclone alert have to PAY for transport out of town, accom and return even for a casual backpacker who does a few hours a week.
At least there you get good value from your catch. Dont know about Perth but as said sambos are not what Id pay to go out and catch.

talked to a friend last night charter out of Dawsville 220.00 will take minimum of 12 max 20 do the sums .... when he goes out mid feb. he is going to give me an up date on what the boat catches

charter boats pay the same as you and me for fuel, minus the GST. Rebate is only for primary producers.

Each to there own,not everyone has a boat. I paid $320 to catch sailfish last year in Broome and $250 to chase barra in the Ord. I flew up took no gear and had a great time,they were both species on the bucket list that if i wanted to catch with my own gear would have cost a shit load more than that just in the logistics of getting your own boat and gear there,let alone the local knowledge. Sambos tho you can keep them you would have to pay me to catch them,they rate 1 above stingrays and gurnets.

What did they expect ???
a Tackle store takes them on a charter charges them a premium so they can go for free
and then tells them all your gear is shit and they need to buy the stuff they sell
and then spends the day fishing away at the best spot.
The make a half assed threat to pull sponsorship for the site, comps etc
